Kozhikode Twin Blasts of March 2006

On Friday 3, March 2006, 1:05PM, bomb blasts took place at KSRTC bus stand and Mofussil bus stand in Kozhikode city injuring two. This was done in retaliation for denying bail to the accused in the Marad incident.

The time of 1:05PM of a Friday was chosen so that most Muslims will be at prayer at Mosques and will be spared from the blasts.

Thadiyantavide Naseer
Of 9 suspects, one turned approver, 4 were arrested, 1 died and the rest were absconding as on 11 August, 2011 when the Kerala High Court convicted Thadiyantavide Naseer and Shafas for manufacturing, posessing and using explosives with the intent of causing harm. They were given life sentences. Other two arrested were acquitted.

Convicted Thadiyantavide Naseer from Kannur was a prolific Islamic terrorist from a very young age. He started as a follower of Abdul Nasser Madani and would later become the South India commander of Lashkar e Toiba. He is also an accused in the the Kalamassery bus burning case of 2005 and in a conspiracy to assassinate former chief minister EK Nayanar. Both Thadiyantavide Naseer and Shafas are also accused in Edakkad - Kashmir terror recruitment case.

Mohammer Asher one of the absconding suspects was arrested in January 2019. He had fled to Saudi Arabia to evade arrest.

Another suspect Yussuf is still at large.
